Extra school funding welcomed by NCEC, but more work to do

The National Catholic Education Commission (NCEC) welcomed today’s announcement by the Prime Minister that ‘every independent school in Australia will see their fundingincreased’ under the Government’s new funding model.

“We presume the Prime Minister is making the same promise to the nation’s Catholic
schools,” NCEC Chair, Mrs Therese Temby, said. “This decision is most welcome.”

“NCEC still needs to see the Government’s own modeling and to hear the Government’s decision on the full scope and nature of the new funding arrangements.
“Only then will we have a clear understanding of exactly how much funding will be available for Catholic schools.

“We note the assurance in the Prime Minister’s speech at the AHISA conference this
morning that her funding plan ‘will lift school standards, not school fees,’ she said.

“This was vital for the future of Catholic schools.

“There is much detailed work to be done, and NCEC will continue to work with the
Government to ensure proper funding for Catholic schools.”
