Help for pilgrims seeking to mark Jubilee

A website to help Catholics celebrate the Jubilee year has been launched by the Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry.

Commission chair, Archbishop of Canberra and Goulburn Christopher Prowse, said he was pleased to announce the website pilgrimsofhope.catholic.org.au had gone live.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for all Australians to celebrate the Jubilee in their own diocese or make a pilgrimage to one of the many churches and holy sites while they are travelling within Australia or on their annual holidays,” Archbishop Prowse said.

“This is an opportunity for renewing our faith and to take advantage of the plenary indulgence in this time of grace.”

He said many of the sites had a rich tradition and reflected the faith of local churches and the history of the Catholic faith across Australia.

“There is much to learn, even just spending time viewing the website,” Archbishop Prowse said.

The website – developed by the Bishops Commission for Evangelisation, Laity and Ministry – will assist in the celebration of the many jubilees and to encourage the faithful to participate in opportunities for spiritual renewal provided by the Holy Year.

The site provides details of cathedrals, shrines, churches and pilgrimages identified by local churches across Australia as fulfilling the requirement for obtaining a plenary indulgence.

It also has printable resources for each of the jubilees to enable parishes, schools and communities to celebrate the events.

The site is now live and will be updated throughout the year as additional material becomes available.
